Goa:
The Southern Konkan was called Govarashtra.
The Mahabharata refers to Goa as Gomanta Kingdom or Goparashtra, "a nation of cowherds or of nomadic tribes". In other ancient Indian texts in Goa is also known as Gopakapuri, Gapakapattana, Gomanchala, Govapuri. Suta Samhita, an Indian classic, describes Goa as such: "To the north of Gokarn is a 'kshetra' with seven 'yojanas' in circumference: therein is situated Govapuri, which destroys all sins. The sight of Govapuri
destroys the sin committed in a previous existence, as at sunrise darkness disappears. Even by making up his mind to bathe once in Govapuri one attains a high place. Certainly there is no 'kshetra' equal to
sri Ananta Temple:
This is one of the famous Goa churches tour itinerary situated in Ponda Taluka at Sovoi Verem a few km from Marcela. This is the only temple of Ananata in Goa. Water and beautiful scenery surround it on all sides. Besides the main deity Anant Sheshashayi, the complex also has Shantadurga, Kamini, Narayan and Grampurush temples.
The idol of Ananta is carved in black stone. Though the structure of the temple is small it is quite inviting. The pillar decoration is very minute and full of intricate designs. The brass stand on the lamp the special illumination stands or "Deepmala" are sacred objects of worship.

Many accept her as Pallavi, their supporting deity, believing that this Goddess of tremendous strength and power was released when the devas and rakshasas were churning the ocean for amrita (nectar). This was popularly know as the Amruthmanthan. The Saraswats, at the time of their arrival in Goa, were worshippers of 'Shiva-Shakti'. While Shiva was represented by the 'Linga', Shakti was a Goddess. Thus Shri Mahalaxmi was their Goddess. This Goddess has been worshipped by the Shilahara rulers (750-1030 A.D.) and the Kadamba Kings of Goa. This peaceful or Satvika form of devi has a unique feature, that she wears linga on her head.

Jama Masjid:
The Jama Masjid is situated at Sanguem, which is around 25 kilometers from the town of Margao. The Jama Masjid was completely renovated in 1959 since it was falling apart, due to the fact that it was built in the last century. The new structure is noteworthy for its synchronized proportions and elegant simplicity. Two elegant towers flank the entrance façade and it is surrounded by four beautiful "minars". A dome shaped cabin rises from the center of the minars. All Muslim festivals are celebrated here with much devotion and harmony.
Safa Masjid Goa:
The Safa Masjid is located in the city of Ponda. It is the biggest and the most famous of all the mosques in Goa. Ibrahim Adilshan of Bijapur built it in 1560. Adjoining the Mosque is a well-constructed tank like pond. The tank has beautifully designed chambers. The mosque and the tank were previously bordered by a widespread garden with numerous fountains. They were ruined during the Portugal rule. The two major festivals of Id-ul-Fitr and Id-ul-Zuha are celebrated at this mosque with great spectacle and devotion and a large number of people grace the occasion.
