
Kathakali Traditional Dance - Kathakali,
the oldest and classical dance in Kerala, presents a spectacular combination
of literature, drama, Kathakali Traditional Dance, music and ritual. Characters with painted faces
and heavy costumes perform the dance which involves immense concentration,
physical stamina, facial expressions, bodily movements and perfect control
over the facial expressions. Literally Kathakali means "Story-Play".
Its themes are religious in nature dealing with the Mahabharata, the
Ramayana and the ancient scriptures known as the Puranas. The performance is

kinds of costume are Sathwika (the hero), Kathi (the villain), Minukku
(females), and Thatti. These costume are further subdivided which Keralite

Music
Music in Kathakali Classical Dance of Kerala is used which is similar to Carnatic music but there are
different instruments used. Chenda idakka shuddha and madalam are
instruments which creates local flavor of music.
Today, Kathakali has transcended the regional boundary and has been
acclaimed world wide. It may also be seen in theaters.
