Kaziranga National Park in India | Elephant Safari Tours

Located in the heart of the picturesque state of Assam in eastern India, Kaziranga National Park in India is a perfect habitat for wild animals, remaining largely undisturbed by human activities. The place is particularly known for the largest population of the one-horned rhinoceros in the world.

The prehistoric beast was on the verge of extinction, as a result of merciless poaching, when the authorities woke up to the fact and the Kaziranga National park was formed.With an area of 430 sq. km. of tall elephant grass, marshland and dense tropical forests, the park also houses a lot of other animals including tigers, elephants, wildlife Attractions India, panthers and bears along with a number of species of rare birds.

Other animals that can be found in the park include elephants, sloth bears, tigers, leopard cats, jungle cats, hog badgers, capped langurs, hoolock gibbons, pigs, jackals, porcupines, pythons, wild buffaloes, Indian bison, swamp deer, sambhars and hog deer.

The avian population of the park includes some permanent inhabitants along with migratory birds, including greylag geese, bar-headed geese, ruddy shelduck, gadwall, falcated duck, red-crested pochard and Northern shoveller.

» All visitors are required to register at the tourist centre in the Bonani Tourist Lodge.
» Entry fee for foreigners is Rs. 200/ person while Indians have to pay a fee of Rs.10/ person with additional charges for vehicles and photography equipment.
» Elephant rides and rented vehicles generally cost between Rs 700 and Rs 800 for foreigners.
» Accommodation is available at the forest lodge in the form of rooms (Rs 450- Rs 750/day), dorm beds (Rs 150/ night) and rooms at luxury resort (Rs 1100/ day).

» By Air : The nearest airport is located at Jorhat, about 95 km from the park. Another major airport is located at Guwahati (220 km).

» By Rail : The nearest railhead is situated at Furkating, about 75 km from the park.

» By Road : Travelling by road is a convenient way of reaching the park. Buses travelling to and from Guwahati, Tezpur and Upper Assam on the National Highway No. 37, stop at the Kohora Gate of the park. There is an entry fees for taking your vehicles into the park.
