Keoladeo Ghana National Park|Leisure destinations in India
The Keoladeo Ghana National Park is situated at the border area of Bharatpur near the states of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Created as a shooting reserve in the 19th century by the Maharaja of Bharatpur, it was converted into a bird sanctuary in 1956. Leisure Destinations in India , The sanctuary houses a rich variety of bird population including the endangered Siberian Crane, which comes to nest here during winters.
Besides birds, the park also houses a wide variety of mammals
and reptiles. The park is open for visitors throughout the year while it is
best visited during the winter months from October to February which is also
the time for the migratory birds to arrive here.

There are lots of Wildlife attractions in India and the Keoladeo Ghana National Park isa home to more than 370 species of birds which include cormorants,
darters, spoonbills,ibises, herons, egrets, cranes, pelicans, flamingos, geese, ducks, larks, chats, kites, buntings, eagles, harriers, owls, vultures and kingfishers.
The more than 50,000 trees of the area provide a perfect habitat for these birds to build their nests in. Besides birds, some varieties of animals can also be found here including jackal, mongoose, sambar (Large Asiatic deer), wild boar, turtles and monitor lizards.

Leisure Destinations in India and Other attractions in the area include the Goverment Museum which houses a large collection of artefacts and other materials providing useful insight into the history of the area.
The Bharatpur Palace situated at a short
distance from the bird sanctuary speaks of the glorious past of the region.
About 32 km from Bharatpur is the Deeg Palace. The palace containing many beautiful
buildings and gardens was the summer resort of the rulers of Bharatpur.
General Information/ Useful Tips
» All visitors are required to
obtain an entry permit which is available at the gates of the park.
» The entry fees for foreigners is Rs 200 while the Indians need to pay Rs 25
per head.
» Extra charges have to be paid for carrying photography equipment.
» There are two forest lodges and two restaurants within the park and also some
good quality hotels in the surrounding areas.
Getting There
» By Rail : Bharatpur is connected with Mathura, Sawai Madhopur,
Kota and Agra through many trains.
» By Road : Bharatpur can be easily accessed through road. Regular
bus services connect Bharatpur with all the neighbouring cities. Travelling
inside the city is not a problem as many aut-rickshaws, cycle-rickshaws and
tongas are easily available.
