Location
General information of lakshadweep- Glimpse of lakshadweep
is the smallest union territory of India located in the west off the Kerala
coast scattering in the area of 200 Km to 400 Km. It is an archipelago of 27
coral islands but only ten of them are populated. Kavaratt Minicoy and Amini
are the main islands, Bitra is the smallest and Kavaratt is the headquarter
of these islands. About 93 percent of the people are Muslims belonging to
the Shafi school of the Sunni sect.
Climate
Generally the climate here is humid and warm and pleasant. From June to
October the south-west monsoon is active while the average rainfall is 10-40
mm. Annual rainfall decreases from south to north. Winds are light to
moderate from October to March.
How to Reach
Glimpse of lakshadweep -
It is connected only by Air and Water. There is flight from Kochi
International airport linking Lakshadweep islands with the mainland. Agatti
is the only airport in Lakshadweep. The flight from Kochi to Agatti takes
one hour and thirty minutes. Four passenger ships MV Tippu Sultan, MV Bharat
Seema, MV Amindivi and MV Minicoy operate between Kochi and glimpse of
lakshadweep. The
passage takes between 18 to 20 hours.
