The word 'Mohiniattam' is compound
form of 'Mohini' and 'attam' which means 'a beautiful woman' and 'dance'.
Popularly believed that Lord Vishnu dressed in a beautiful enchantress to
thwart the demons from the nectar of immortality which came after churning
the ocean.
