
The
SalarJung Museum Cochin Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad, has the distinction of being an Institution of
National Importance. This repository of artistic wonders from across the
world is the brainchild of Mir Yousuf Ali Khan, popular as Salar Jung III.
At this museum, you can feast your eyes upon 47,000 pieces of antiques. The
museum has been segregated into various sections as the Oriental Section,
the Art Gallery, Children's Section, Furniture Section etc. There are
antiquities from European, Asian and Far Eastern countries of the world.

Salarjung Museum In Cochin India and such treasured manuscripts as illuminated Qurans and classics with splendid
calligraphy can be viewed here. The Jade Room displays interesting items
like encrusted spice boxes, mirror backs, huqqas, archery rings etc. The
Carpet Sections has embellished carpets from Persia, Shiraz, Isfahan, heart
etc.
The Art Gallery
This section has exquisite miniatures from Mewar, Arwar and Jaipur. You can
also see some Western masterpieces by Landseer, Watts, Leighton and Cooper.
Landscape paintings by Turner and Constable and copies of masterpieces like
Reubens, Raphel and Titan are also on display.
Other Sections

The Museum until 1961
The Salar Jung Museum was opened for public visit in the year 1951. Until
1961, it was kept up by the Ministry of Scientific Research and Cultural
Affairs. After passing of an act by the Indian parliament it was declared as
an institution of national importance. An autonomous body administers the
affairs now.
