Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary - The sanctuary is spread over an area of
777 sq km and holds the distinction of being one of the most famous and
largest forest reserves in India. The sanctuary is covered with dense
forests, open fields and waterways. The forest here, slopes into the man
made lake at the bottom of the hill. This lake serves as the waterhole for
the animals and they come here to drink or take a dip. The place is home to
many animals including elephants, tigers, leopards, sambhar deer, wild
boars, bears, wild dogs, squirrels and snakes.
